Holy Week schedule

Please join us for traditional Holy Week liturgies.

Palm Sunday

7:45am & 10:00am on March 29
The Liturgy of the Palms. The 10:00am service will include the chanting of the Passion Gospels, marking the beginning of our Holy Week observances.

Please gather outside the Great Doors in front of the church at 9:50am.

Hands & Feet Holy Week

4:00pm & 5:15pm on Wednesday, April 1
Children are very welcome at each of the Holy Week services, but Saint Philip’s also offers younger children their own introduction to the prayers and practices of Holy Week.

In two sessions led by Music Educator Chelsea Shepherd and Mtr Taylor, they will explore Palm Sunday, Jesus’ teachings in the temple, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday at different stations.

Tenebrae

7:00pm on Wednesday, April 1
The Lay Clerks and Canterbury Apprentices
This is one of the most dramatic liturgies of Holy Week; psalms and anthems are sung as we move from light to the darkness of the tomb.

Maundy Thursday

7:00pm on April 2 (also live-streamed)
The liturgy of the Three Holy Days (Triduum) begins with this powerful service that commemorates the Last Supper.

Good Friday

12:00pm on April 3 (also live-streamed)
The Lay Clerks and Choir Member Volunteers
The Solemn Liturgy of Good Friday.

Holy Saturday

8:30am on April 4
A short service of Morning Prayer in the Garden Columbarium that commemorates when Jesus Christ was buried in the tomb.

Easter Vigil

8:00pm on Saturday, April 4 (also live-streamed)
Saint Nicholas Choir and Schola Cantorum
This service will begin outside the Great Doors at the front of the church at 8:00pm.

The lighting of the new fire, Old Testament readings, and psalms culminate in the Glory of the Easter Proclamation. This is a dramatic service with brass sextet, organ, and timpani.

Easter Sunday

Sunday, April 5
6:00am Sunrise Eucharist in the Garden Columbarium

7:45am Eucharist in the church

9:00am Choral family service in the church (also live-streamed)
Joined with organ, strings, and brass, the Choirs of Saint Philip’s will sing Gerre Hancock’s Missa Resurrectionis and a new setting of John’s gospel lesson for choir and string ensemble.

10:30am Easter egg hunt in the labyrinth area

11:15am Choral Eucharist with incense
