Welcome!

Choosing to visit a new church can be intimidating and even a little frightening. Who knows what you will find? Will it be pledge Sunday? Will they try to make me join a committee? Will they mention Jesus once or twice? How long will the sermon be? Will I be welcome?

We extend a special welcome to those who are single, married, divorced, gay, rich, poor, yo no habla Ingles.

We extend a special welcome to those who are crying newborns, skinny as a rail, or could afford to lose a few pounds.

You’re welcome if you can sing like Andrea Bocelli or if your cat gives you a dirty look when you try to carry a tune.

You’re welcome if you’re “just browsing,” just woke up, or just got out of jail.

We really don’t care if you’re more Catholic than the Pope, have a fondness for Lutheran potlucks, grew up Episcopalian, or left Church young and are just starting to look back.

We extend a special welcome to those who are over 60 but not grown up yet, and to teenagers who are growing up too fast.

We welcome soccer moms, NASCAR dads, starving artists, tree-huggers, latte-sippers, vegetarians, junk-food eaters.

We welcome those who are in recovery or still addicted. We welcome you if you’re having problems or you’re down in the dumps or if you don’t like “organized religion” because we’ve been there, too.

We welcome those who are inked, pierced, or both.

We offer a special welcome to those who could use a prayer right now, had religion shoved down your throat as a kid, or got lost in traffic and wound up here by mistake.

We welcome tourists, seekers, doubters, and pilgrims.

We welcome you all because all of us have found a community here and hope that you will, too.

Who we are

How to summarize 2,000 years of Christian history, 500 years of Anglican history, 250 years of Episcopal history, and almost 80 years of Saint Philip’s history—in a digestible way for a newcomer to this parish, the Episcopal Church, and the Christian faith?

Here’s an attempt.

Saint Philip’s in the Hills is an Episcopal Church, part of the worldwide Anglican Communion, that has sought to share our love for God, and his love for the world, for almost eighty years.

We are a community that strives to make this a more beautiful world through art and music, a more just world through service and advocacy, and a more loving world through care and compassion.

We’re not a perfect church but we strive, day by day, to follow with joy where we are led as we seek and serve Christ.

We are a Church that is shaped by timeless traditions, creeds, and worship that believes God still speaks today.

We believe that God gives himself to us in Bread to be life for the world, in Word to be hope for humanity, and in each other as a blessing through this life and in the next.

We believe God in Christ has created, redeemed, and restored Creation and that we are called to be shepherds of the faith, from generation to generation, confident in that love and ready to be faithful witnesses proclaiming with our lives what we profess in our worship: that we are called to go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
