Dear Saint Philip’s Community,

It is my honor and pleasure to serve as Interim Rector of your parish. I begin at the time when parishes traditionally ask for financial support.

As a newcomer, I am impressed with the many opportunities to serve, give, learn, and grow together in Christ. Community matters. In the crisis of disconnection and isolation, support and hope are offered in healthy communities such as Saint Philip’s.

Our country is hurting. Widespread anger indicates dreams unmet and betrayal by leaders and institutions. The church in general and Saint Philip’s in particular is poised to welcome and embrace those who might dare cross our threshold—always a daring act for anyone. May we rise to the occasion and demonstrate acceptance.

Herb Burton, Treasurer, and Bonnie Winn, Stewardship Chair, have laid out the needs for increased giving. My initial impression is that the staff is exceptional, and that you, the parishioners, are emphatically welcoming. Everyone seems on board to offer the best that they have.

Community matters. Hospitality matters. Living into relationships of giving and receiving matters. All of this exists within a structure that requires money. I join Herb and Bonnie in their heartfelt invitation for you to increase your annual offering.

The larger Tucson community needs Saint Philip’s and all that it has to share. The work of Christ within and among us is vibrant and joyful. May those who discover our community this coming year be as enriched by it as we are.
