Isaiah 49: 1-6
Matthew 28:16-20
My dear Sisters and Brothers,
One of the probing questions asked of a parishioner in the Bell &Tower is “what is one of your super powers?”
In the book of Acts, after Jesus’ death and resurrection, Jesus’ friends whom he loved, gathered in the upper room in Jerusalem. The Disciples and the two Marys; all returned to the sacred place where Jesus had washed their feet and served them their final “love meal.” I cannot imagine their pain, their grief…their beloved leader was no more…what should they do? Holding onto their memories of Jesus’ words…“the Spirit is in you and will be with you always.”
“YES,” ALL of us have a super power! At our hearts’ center lies a super power waiting to be used for the greater good. We have the ability, through the Holy Spirit, to heal, to show mercy AND to love God. We have to believe it.
Today’s readings instruct believers to “share salvation to the ends of the earth.”
“Here I am God, send me.” These disciples were super heroes we now call Saints. “A Saint ain’t nothin but a flawed human being who looks at the world through the lens of their heart.” —Dr. Cornell West
God uses imperfect people like US to save the world. Nothing feels better than participating in something larger than yourself. If there was ever a time that our world needs super heroes, it is now!!
HERE I AM LORD SEND ME
Faithfully,
—Dcn Anne
