Thank you, Arouet!

Saint Philip’s Prison Ministry sends a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff and volunteers from Arouet for leading the reentry simulation on Saturday, March 1.

We also thank all the people from Saint Philip’s and from the wider community who participated.

An Intensely Moving Experience
While the simulation pales in comparison to the realities of reentry, just getting a taste of what it’s like to navigate the numerous indignities and barriers that are part of daily life for people coming out of prison has been intensely moving and truly eye-opening.

The stories that the women of Arouet shared of their lived experience of this uphill battle against the system have left a lasting impression. Their strength and resilience is a testament to the amazing work Arouet does to assist women who have been released from Perryville get back on their feet and onto a path to healing and success.

How to Support Arouet
Although Arouet is based in Phoenix, Tucson locals can support Arouet by volunteering as a mentor, which can be done online.

Also, you can donate! Your donations are what sustain the work that Arouet does to break the cycle of recidivism and keep people off the streets and out of prison.

You can learn more about ways to support by visiting www.arouetempowers.org.

It Takes a Village
With thousands of people being released from prison annually, it takes multiple organizations working together to respond to the need for comprehensive reentry support. Some organizations local to Tucson that provide reentry support include Primavera, Old Pueblo Community Services, and Second Chance Tucson.

Visit their websites to learn what community members can do to support their work by donating, advocacy, or volunteering.

One way that Saint Philip’s is already helping is by preparing meals for Primavera’s men’s shelter once a month. Look for announcements in the Bell & Tower about upcoming opportunities to volunteer.
