New nature area

The Creation Care Commission has a project update and an invitation!

The area north of the church’s great window (behind the altar) is a newly-designed rain catchment and drainage area.

The project’s purpose is to help the church budget by reducing the damage heavy rains cause. Less damage means less restoration will be needed.

You can help! Volunteers are needed to place rocks and mulch around the basins, and to lay walking paths through the area. (All the heavy work moving dirt will be done by machine prior to volunteers’ arrival.)

When: 8:00am-12:00pm, on Saturdays, November 1 & 8

Where: Area north of the Great Window and south of the playground

Clothing: Closed toe shoes, a hat, and work gloves if you have them

What to bring: Water bottle, sunscreen

RSVP or questions: Greg Silva at gregsilva@aol.com

Once completed, this area will be a lovely place to stroll, appreciate the desert bounty, and maybe spot a resident owl in one of the nesting boxes built by the 2025 Vacation Bible School scholars.

Attracting owls is the second project that will help the budget. Owls are natural desert predators that will help keep the pack rat population under control; a nice solution through Nature’s balance.
