Meet God at the Movies

Saint Philip’s movie discussion group will discuss the movie The King’s Speech at its next gathering at 6:30pm on Tuesday, December 15 via Zoom.

As per the internet, “England’s Prince Albert (Colin Firth) must ascend the throne as King George VI, but he has a speech impediment. Knowing that the country needs her husband to be able to communicate effectively, Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter) hires Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush), an Australian actor and speech therapist, to help him overcome his stammer. An extraordinary friendship develops between the two men, as Logue uses unconventional means to teach the monarch how to speak with confidence.”

Saint Philip’s movie discussion group gathers every month via Zoom to explore a film and plumb it for theological content in the areas of creation (what is the world of the story like); what is broken/where is sin; is there a moment of turnaround, repentance; and where is redemption or the reign of God visible.

All are welcome to join the discussions—only once, sporadically, or on a regular basis—but registration is required. You can do that by emailing Paula Datsko at pauladatsko@gmail.com.

The film is available to stream on the Roku Channel, Amazon Prime, and available for rent on Apple TV, YoutubeTV, and Fandango.
