Fr Matthew ‘s reflections are published every Tuesday but he begins writing them on the previous Thursday. He spends about an hour sitting with some commentaries to the relevant scripture, or a saint’s vita, or whatever else might be appropriate for that Tuesday.

He mulls a few ideas over, writes his reflection, and then submits it. He invariably forgets about it for four full days so that when he opens the Office Book on Tuesday morning and reads the lesson again for Morning Prayer, he encounters the passage as if greeting an old friend.

But as much as he enjoys his own reflection process, he says his greatest joy comes from reading what other authors contribute. He discovers something new to consider with each daily reflection.
