Dear Friends in Christ,

Today’s Gospel, Luke 12:32-40, offers a message of trust, generosity, and readiness that resonates deeply with anyone facing uncertainty about the future.

Jesus begins by reassuring us not to be afraid, reminding us that God’s kingdom is a gift beyond measure. This promise encourages us to live without fear, especially fear about what tomorrow might bring.

The passage then invites us to be rich toward God by sharing generously with others. When Jesus tells us not to hoard our treasures on earth, he points us to a deeper joy found in giving.

I once asked a parishioner in Denver who was joyful and well into her nineties what the secret to her joy was. Her answer has always stuck with me. She said “I try never to pass up a chance to be generous.”

Generosity is more than an act; it is a lifestyle that reflects our faith in God’s abundant love. By looking for chances to give—whether time, resources, or love—we participate in kingdom life here and now.

Each act of loving kindness is a small investment in eternal treasure, reminding us that what we offer from our hearts will never be wasted.

Jesus calls us to be watchful and ready, like servants waiting for their master’s return.

This readiness isn’t about anxiety or being afraid, it’s about living with purpose and openness, embracing each moment as an opportunity to serve with joy.

When we trust God and focus on generosity, fear of the future, and fear of our neighbors, loses its grip. Instead, we live with hope, confident that God is in control.

In all of this, we are encouraged to release our fears and embrace generosity boldly. The future may be unknown, but God’s love is certain.

By choosing generosity and trust today, we not only bless others but also prepare our hearts for the joyful coming of God’s kingdom.

I hope this week finds you with chances  to be generous and to face tomorrow without fear.

Yours in Christ,

—Fr Robert
