Christian Ethics
Mosaic, the principal formation offering at Saint Philip’s, will resume on Wednesday, November 5, with a new series titled “Christian Ethics.”
This second series will run through Wednesday, December 10, and will investigate a core question: Is there a distinct Christian way of living or a specific set of Christian values?
The first session, “Rules: The Ten Commandments,” will be led by parishioner and retired professor, Julia Annas.
The Ten Commandments get promoted in two different ways: as a basis for law and as a basis for personal ethics. But they are problematic in both roles.
As a basis for living, in Judaism they are supplemented by the prescriptions which structure daily life, but Christians don’t follow these, so why the importance to us of the Ten Commandments?
