Baptism

Opportunities for baptism are coming up! If you would like to prepare for the baptism of an infant, toddler, older child, tween, or teen, please sign up.

Also consider reaching out to Mtr Taylor so that we can offer another half-day Baptism Retreat for children who can participate on their own.

Mtr Taylor or Fr Matthew would be very happy to meet with adult Baptizands and determine a plan for individual preparation, as well.

The upcoming dates are:

  • Easter Vigil, April 19, 2025 at 8:00pm
  • Pentecost, June 8, 2025 at 10:00am
  • The Sunday after All Saints Day, November 9, 2025
  • The first Sunday after the Epiphany, January 11, 2026

You can review the baptismal service in the Book of Common Prayer on p. 301, or online under Holy Baptism by clicking here.

Baptism into this particular church is not required for membership at Saint Philip’s, and we do not rebaptize if someone has been baptized in another church.

If someone wants to reaffirm their faith, they can do so with the Bishop at the yearly Confirmation and Reaffirmation service, and we all get to do this reaffirmation of our Baptism at each Baptismal service.

The Episcopal church traditionally baptizes babies, in part as an affirmation of the claim that it is one-way, life and death changing grace, that the sacrament speaks to and imbues something even the wisest adult cannot fully comprehend. We also baptize at any age, with each stage offering unique opportunities to understand and meet the grace of God in one’s stage and need.
