A Lenten devotion

A Scriptural Way of the Cross devotion, led by Emily Lyons, will be held from 5:00pm-6:00pm, today, Friday, April 11 in Saint Anne’s. All are invited.

The Episcopal Book of Occasional Services explains that the Way of the Cross is an adaptation of “a custom widely observed by pilgrims to Jerusalem: the offering of prayer at a series of places in that city traditionally associated with our Lord’s passion and death” and notes that it is appropriate “either as a public service or as a private devotion, particularly on the Fridays of Lent.”

The Way of the Cross devotion centers Christ as a condemned criminal. Observing this devotion opens an avenue for reflection on how our charge to “seek and serve Christ in all persons” includes people in prison.

You are invited to stay after the service for a brief meditation and guided reflection on this theme.

If you can’t attend in person but would like to practice this observance on your own at home, email Emily at elyons@arizona.edu for resources.
