Music is a foundational part of parish life at Saint Philip’s. With a choir tradition that spans decades, a substantial music library, and robust choir communities, Saint Philip’s is a place where music and worship are synonymous.
Musical works are considered part of the liturgical ministry, and the musicians serve a vital function in the worship services.
The choir works hard to learn repertoire of historical richness, and to present it with skill to enhance the congregation’s worship.
Choristers spend hours in rehearsals with music by Bach, Palestrina, Pärt, and Howells. They delve into the past, singing chants from the Middle Ages, cantatas from Baroque Germany, Icelandic hymns from the last century, or new para-liturgical music from Estonia.
