Sally Gunderman

How long have you been a parishioner of Saint Philip’s?
Since 2001.

What brought you to the parish?
My first visit was because of the music; I had heard it was wonderful. But the minute I stepped into the church I was hooked. I’m a visual person and the minute I saw the organ and the view behind the altar I knew I had found a home.

What has motivated you to remain a parishioner for 21 years?
I feel at home here. I joined the choir early on and found a community that way. And the other volunteer activities I’ve been involved with over the years have only reinforced my commitment.

I love Saint Philip’s—and feel loved in return. My experience on Sundays makes my whole week.

What are your volunteer activities at Saint Philip’s right now?
My main activities reflect two of my passions: welcoming people and entrepreneurship.

People can find me under the blue umbrella at church on Sunday mornings and I also serve on the Finance Committee. I’m also involved with the Delightful Divas.

Tell us about the Delightful Divas.
First, we didn’t name ourselves. The name was given to us. The Delightful Divas are five women from Saint Philip’s who meet every month for dinner. We also sponsor a True Concord concert every spring.

What’s your entrepreneur experience?
My husband and I had $400 to our name and I used $300 of that to start a clothing business. In the beginning I sold clothes out of the house but after seven years, I had a retail space where I sold by appointment.

I now own and operate Cactus Cove Bed & Breakfast on the east side. It allows me to surround myself with people who I can make happy. That brings me great joy.

What’s a fun fact about you?
I’ve been to Paris 150 times!
