John Bremond

How long have you been a parishioner at Saint Philip’s?
I grew up here. I was baptized, confirmed, and served as an acolyte. My wife, Paulette, and I were married at Saint Philip’s 53 years ago. My parents, grandparents, and other family members are in the columbarium.

Does that mean you’re a native Tucsonan?
I sure am. I was raised on a farm at Craycroft and Ft. Lowell. The road stopped at Ft. Lowell; there was nothing developed beyond that. My friends and I would ride horses up to the foothills.

What does Saint Philip’s mean to you?
It’s my spiritual home. Over all the years we’ve been parishioners, Saint Philip’s has been an anchor for us—a real haven.

How would you describe Saint Philip’s?
As a warm, welcoming parish that has something for everyone. It is unique in that it has terrific liturgies, and extensive volunteer opportunities—both within the parish, as well as beyond the campus.

Christmas Eve services are some of my favorite all year. They create a magical feeling that can’t be fully described.

What volunteer roles have you held over the years?
I’ve been on the Vestry four times. First as the Junior Warden, and then as Senior Warden three times (for three different rectors). My current term as Senior Warden will formally end at the annual meeting on Sunday, February 19, 2023.

I was also intimately involved in the parish’s first two capital campaigns which expanded the church and built the current set of offices.

What did you do professionally before you retired?
The majority of my career was in real estate development.

What is a fun fact about you?
I love to race cars. Nothing formal; my friends and I go to the mountains and enjoy racing off-road.

What is one of your superpowers?
I am a 60s, 70s, and 80s rock ‘n’ roll trivia fanatic! I can tell you the name of any group, lead singer, etc.
