Spread some joy
As in years past, Saint Philip’s is partnering with other local Episcopal parishes to organize the St Nicholas Boutique in the Old Pascua Yaqui community. The event will take place from 1:00pm-3:00pm on Saturday, December 6 (Saint Nicholas Day), at the Richey Resource Center.
Learn three ways you can participate below:
1) Prayer Cards for Pascua Yaqui Children
In Pascua Yaqui tradition, the Flower World (yo a’nia) is sometimes understood as what Christians might call heaven. With this beautiful image in mind, this year’s prayer cards feature flowers, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
Each card will bear the name of a child from Old Pascua Village, so you can pray for that child by name in the weeks leading up to the boutique. If you haven’t picked up a card yet, please reach out to Mtr Beth. Writing a short note to the child is also encouraged. Please return all notes by Sunday, November 29, to be delivered at the event.
2) Donate items for the boutique
New or gently used items are welcome so children in the Pascua Yaqui community can choose gifts for their elders and siblings. Suggested donations include:
- “Fancy” men’s and women’s toiletries
- Socks, handkerchiefs, headbands, scarves—flower scarves are often appreciated by the ceremony participants.
- Home decor and small figurines (animals such as dogs, cats, bunnies, deer, and birds)
- Kitchen towels, aprons, and accessories
- Bath towels and throw blankets
- Shopping bags, totes, baskets, and carts
- Small stuffed toys
You may drop off donations and notes in the Murphey Gallery on Sundays and the parish offices on weekdays.
3) Volunteer
Consider volunteering the day before to set up, or on the day of the boutique, where you can meet and celebrate with the children and families of Old Pascua.
