Safety update

Saint Philip’s in the Hills promotes both the sanctity and safety of the church campus. To that end, one project was recently completed and another will begin shortly.

Bullet impact-resistant glass
Saint Philip’s received a grant of $150,000 from FEMA that is administered by the State of Arizona’s Department of Homeland Security. In consultation with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, a bullet impact-resistant security film was placed on all the windows and doors of the Bloom Music Center, the school classrooms, and the church office building.

These safety improvements now provide church members, children, parents, and staff attending Saint Philip’s and Catalina Preschool and Kindergarten with an additional level of building security.

A very big thank you to parishioners Mike Humphrey, Jane Prescott-Smith, Herb Burton, and the late Barbara Cone who were instrumental in acquiring the grant and shepherding this project.

Gates
Saint Philip’s is also funding improvements to the three gates that are at the north and south entrances to the west and east breezeways.

The improvements will allow the gates to close automatically, address problems with emergency access, and enable school personnel to grant access to parents remotely. This will provide convenience and safety measures that have been lacking.

This project is slated to begin the week of May 11.

This project was made possible by parishioner Mike Humphrey’s leadership and engagement, and funding by the Preservation & Endowment Board. Staff and church leadership are very grateful for everyone’s generosity.

If you have questions about either of these safety improvements, please contact Parish Administrator, Kiki Cheney, at Kiki.cheney@stphilipstucson.org.
