O God, whose mercies cannot be numbered: Accept our prayers on behalf of your servant Jane, and grant her an entrance into the land of light and joy, in the fellowship of your saints; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
—The Book of Common Prayer, Burial of the Dead, Rite II

Jane Catharine Gessner of Oro Valley, Arizona, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, at age 80.

Of all her roles, that of artist, teacher, commercial buyer, she cherished most her role as Mother, wife, and sister to her family whom she loved with unwavering devotion. Jane possessed a consistent concern for the welfare of others; contributed her time and talents to civic organizations, and had a commitment and compassion for social justice issues.

She is survived by her husband, Michael to whom she was married for 58 years, her son Christopher, her sisters, Dr. Mary Sue Baker, Sara Brienzo, and Joan Gushiken, and her nieces, Karie Kerner, and Nancy Sue Kerner.

Jane’s charm, easy laughter, quick wit, resilience, and her grace when faced with adversity, will stay with those she loved, and those who loved her. Jane’s presence will remain with all who knew her.

Grateful acknowledgement is made to the health care staff of Tucson Medical Center, and to TMC’S Hospice; to those care givers who treated Jane with every respect, extraordinary skill, and kindness.
