“He has told you, O Mortal, what is good, and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God.“
—Micah 6:8
This past Spring, we announced our first Coins of Kindness Campaign. The idea was simple: People donate their spare change in order to support educational programs and outreach programs within the church, and other organizations doing amazing work for those in need in the greater Tucson community.
The Saint Philip’s youth were heavily involved in supporting this initiative.
They helped staff tables to ensure people took coin jars home with them. They spoke to the congregation on Sunday morning services when the campaign was launched, encouraging everyone to participate. They learned about many different educational and outreach programs within the church, and non-profits in the community, along the way.
Ultimately, our youth voted on what organizations to support, using their voice to help make an impact in our church and city!
The final results are in! We received a whopping 114 donations, totaling $5,259.06!
These donations will be distributed evenly among the top three designated ministries which were voted for by our youth. They encompass both the educational reach, and support, which this initiative hoped to encourage our youth to think deeply about.
The programs which are receiving funds are:
1. Primavera Men’s Shelter
2. The UK Residency and Pilgrimage
3. The Saint Philip’s Food Pantry & Manna Bags
Thank you to everyone for your generous support of this year’s Coins of Kindness! Thanks to the many youth who participated and used their votes and voices to help direct their support to these organizations and ministries. It’s genuinely amazing how much can be done when we all come together, even with change that is sitting in all the nooks and crannies of our homes, cars, and wherever else collecting dust!
Thank you everyone!
