Dear Friends,

This year Thanksgiving falls shortly after election day in our country. As I read the appointed lessons for today, I felt that the lectionary was a gift from the Holy Spirit. No matter how you reacted to the results of November 5, we surely have reason to give thanks to God for the countless blessings of our lives.

Matthew 5: 25:  Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life,…Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?

And a reminder:

1Timothy 2: 1-2: First of all I urge that supplication, prayers, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity.

It is our responsibility to work for justice and truth in this world, planting the seeds of God’s Kingdom. And the hope of that Kingdom continues to help us balance the kingdom of this world with that which is our true home.

Psalm 126:
Those who sowed with tears will reap with songs of joy.
Those who go out  weeping, carrying the load,
Will come again with joy, shouldering their sheaves.

Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people.

Faithfully,

—Chotard
