From the Rector

Dear Friends in Christ,

It is an honor for us to host the Diocese of Arizona for diocesan convention later this month. As hosts, there are a wide range of roles we still need to fill to graciously and efficiently welcome folks from across Arizona, most of whom will be coming here for the first time.

The date of convention is Saturday, October 19, and there is an expected attendance of 450 people.

We estimate we have 110 volunteer work shifts to fill from 7:00am-4:00pm or later on Saturday. Afternoon set-up help is needed also on Friday, October 18.

Access to Saint Philip's campus will be restricted on Saturday, October 19. Only those people who have registered for the convention—or are volunteers—will be invited to be at Saint Philip's for the day.

This is a chance for us all to pitch in to help those coming here leave with a sense of energy and joy, proud to be part of the Episcopal Church in Arizona.

Saint Philip’s is blessed with a number of gifts—including our beautiful campus—that will help make this possible. The greatest gift we have is you, the people of the parish, who will help make this a beautiful and memorable day for the many who will come from parishes all over the state.

I hope you’ll consider volunteering.

There are many roles that require minimal standing or carrying things, such as helping at welcome desks. There are also roles that require heavy lifting if you need a workout! Know that your time is appreciated and we are grateful for your willingness to help make this come together.

I hope you’ll also take a minute to thank Nancy Atherton, Bonnie Winn, and Sue Cross in particular for all the time and labor going into convention planning. Their energy and faithful, patient grace in all of this is as monumental as the work itself!

Yours in Christ,

—Fr Robert
