Nurture our future

A signature element of Saint Philip’s formation for children is the Montessori-based Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. It helps our children develop their relationship with God in developmentally appropriate ways through Scripture, liturgy, holy work, and play in community.

The children’s learning and relationships are nurtured by catechists—volunteers who complete four sections of training.

In order to maintain the excellence of our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Atrium, more than just a few catechists are needed.

A community of catechists allows for teams to create materials, serve as substitutes, and generally create a sustainable model of formation for our children.

A wonderful opportunity will be available this school year: the catechist training will be offered locally at Saint Philip’s and St. Pius parishes. Saint Philip’s has budgeted monies to cover the training cost for anyone from this parish who is interested.

There are four sections of training (Level 1a, 1b, Level 2a, 2b) that need to be taken in order. The sessions will be offered this program year over the course of several Saturdays; the training will take place at St. Pius and Saint Philip’s.

The training will be led by Saint Philip’s parishioner Harriet Claiborne, Norma Cable, and Annette Witte (all certified trainers), as well as Dcn Ruthie Hooper.

This is also a wonderful opportunity for home educators or anyone who wants to nurture discipleship for small children at home.

Please prayerfully consider if this training is something you would like to explore—and be in touch by Sunday, September 15, by emailing Dcn Ruthie at ruthhooper08@comcast.net.
