Recognition Sunday

This Sunday, May 22, Saint Philip’s will celebrate the very many faithful people who devoted their time and gave generously of themselves this past program year.

The breadth of service is great. It begins with the children in the Saint Nicholas Choir. It includes the youth who prepared with maturity for the sacrament of Confirmation and who volunteered to support non-profit efforts in Tucson. It continues with the young adults who served the broader Tucson community as members of Beloved in the Desert.

The range extends to parents who created a Parents Formation group that met weekly for fellowship and learning. It consists of the many volunteers who participated in nurturing Saint Philip’s youth and encouraged their exploration of a relationship with God.

The steady attention of the Altar Guild members supported Saint Philip’s liturgies—the foundation of the parish’s communal life. Being nourished spiritually enabled the volunteers for Outreach and Feeding ministries to assist people beyond the parish walls.

The quiet and reliable concern offered by pastoral care volunteers helped maintain connections within the Saint Philip’s community. The stitches that created prayer shawls to comfort those in distress were made while gathered in fellowship—in person or via Zoom.

The Vestry members who balance multiple view points and who are asked to focus on unsexy governance issues might work behind-the-scenes but their decisions have real impact.

These are just a few examples of the different ways that the Saint Philip’s community lives out the church’s mission to gather in love, be transformed by grace, and serve others. Thank you!
