Meet your delegates

Editor’s note: The Diocese of Arizona will hold its 62nd annual convention on Friday, October 21-Saturday, October 22 at the El Conquistador Hotel in Tucson, AZ. A detailed schedule of events is available by clicking here.

This is the second of two articles about the Convention. This week’s story introduces the delegates who will represent Saint Philip’s Church at Convention and outlines their responsibilities.

Last week’s article provided an overview of what the Convention is and what happens during the two-day event. Click here for that story.

Parishioners Linda and Raymond Dewey, David Hass, and Bruce and Sally Larsen will represent Saint Philip’s Church at the annual diocesen convention next week.

The delegate’s role is to provide a link between the congregation and the diocese and report to the congregation about events, actions, and decisions that occur at convention.

Delegates have voting rights at convention. In order to serve as a delegate, the person must be a confirmed communicant in good standing and be at least 16 years old.

A lay delegate is typically someone with intimate knowledge about the congregation. All five delegates have served Saint Philip’s in various roles; a few highlighted roles are noted below.

Linda Dewey is very involved with the Altar Guild, the Prayer Shawl ministry, and volunteers as an usher on Sundays.

Raymond Dewey was Saint Philip’s treasurer and is the current treasurer for the Preservation & Endowment Fund, as well as the Ministry & Endowment Funds Trust.

David Hass is a current Vestry member and represents the Vestry on the Preservation & Endowment Fund Board.

Bruce Larsen has been to Convention twice, in addition to the convention to elect Bishop Jennifer A. Reddall. He is a former Vestry member and was President of Friends of Music. Bruce is currently a member of the Finance Committee and sings in the choir.

Sally Larsen has been to Convention twice, and also attended the convention to elect Bishop Jennifer A. Reddall. She represented Saint Philip’s at the Consortium of Endowed Episcopal Parishes, served on the Vestry, and was Chair of the Ministry & Endowment Funds Trust for six years.

All congregational clergy also serve as delegates and should be considered part of the congregation's delegation.
