Coat drive

In the upcoming week, Saint Philip's has an unusual opportunity for outreach: The Arizona Chapter of the Union of Black Episcopalians (UBE) has partnered with the Mar Thoma Church* of Phoenix to collect winter coats to take to Navajoland. New or gently used coats for all ages are requested by Thursday, January 20.

As ally-members of the Arizona chapter of UBE, Saint Philip’s members Nancy Atherton and Dcn Susan Erickson would be very grateful for your donations of coats.

The Mar Thoma Church is in communion with the Episcopal Church. The Phoenix parish is a small one with 50-55 families. Its members are working on the coat drive with Fr Joe Hubbard, the vicar at St Christopher's Mission in Monument Valley. Fr Hubbard visits the mission once a month from his home in Virginia.

Please bring your contributions this coming Sunday, January 15, and leave them on the big chest outside of church or bring them to the church office during office hours. Thank you!

*The Mar Thoma Church is based in the Indian state of Karala but is related to the Syrian Orthodox Church. "Thoma" is "Thomas," the Apostle believed to have brought Christianity to India.
