From the Rector

Dear Friends in Christ,

I firmly believe that the Holy Spirit brings the right people into the life of a congregation and calls them to places where their gifts may be used at the right time. Four years ago, we were one year into my time here and just a few months into the ministries of Mark, Peter, Kelli, Taylor, and Justin. It was a period of enormous turnover when so much seemed to be changing so quickly.

It was just around then that Sunny Bal and I began conversations about church, ministry, business, and life. It was also just around then that our senior warden was moving on to new possibilities. Sunny, with his experience, relationships, business success, and deep faith quickly emerged as the right person at the right time. Someone who could bring a sense of stability and long leadership at Saint Philip’s to that critical role.

He is retiring as senior warden after this pandemic year when, once again, his experience and gifts helped guide us through a time of change and uncertainty. I will always be grateful for his friendship and his willingness to do anything he can to help make life here thrive. He’s got a lot of travel planned ahead and it’s well-earned time for rest!

I believe the Holy Spirit has guided the next right person to the role as well. John Bremond will assume the role of senior warden. John, like Sunny, brings experience, a long family history at Saint Philip’s, and has served in leadership roles across the parish. He brings a steady, even hand as we come out of the pandemic and look to what’s ahead of us.

In the weeks ahead we can look forward to a note from John. In the meantime, I hope that you will thank both him and Sunny for their long commitment to this parish and to our life together. We’re blessed with leaders who know this place, love its history, and are willing to work toward its future.

The Holy Spirit brings the right people to the right place at the right time. Thank God for that!
