MLK webinar

Saint Philip’s in the Hills, Tucson, is hosting a timely program on Martin Luther King weekend, January 16-17, 2021.

“In Solidarity--Working for Racial Justice in solidarity with the Black Community” is the title of the two-day offering by Deacon Joan Crawford of Tempe.

The weekend will include a five-hour webinar (with a lunch break) on Saturday, January 16. Then on Sunday, January 17, Deacon Joan will preach at the 10:00am service, and attend the virtual coffee hour immediately thereafter.

Saint Philip’s has extended an invitation to all Diocesan programs and churches, as well as to ecumenical partners of Deacon Joan.

She asks that your questions be submitted in advance to Mtr Taylor Devine taylor.devine@stphilipstucson.org

Hopefully, as the weekend progresses Deacon Joan, will be able to answer some of these with the whole group.

We need you to register for the webinar. Here’s the link.   https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_OHURSYX0Qb2Z890qyHET2A

Both the Sunday worship and the Coffee Hour are available via Zoom on Sunday morning. Here’s the link for Coffee Hour. It requires a password: 810531

The 10:00am service may be followed on the church home page, https://stphilipstucson.org

Deacon Joan imagines the following questions may be on our minds:

  • Now that you’ve been awakened to the violence against African Americans, what do you do

  • Why is there such misunderstanding and mistrust between black & white folks in this country?

  • Didn’t the election of President Obama prove that racism is no longer a significant problem?

  • Is racism really the issue?  Isn’t it more of an economic issue?

  • What can I as an individual do to promote racial justice?

  • What if I say and do the wrong thing?

  • Do I have white privilege?
