Arizona funders step up

By Jane Prescott-Smith

When John Bremond, Jane Prescott-Smith, and Mike Italiano travelled to Philadelphia for a three-day training at the National Fund for Sacred Places, they heard one message loud and clear: contact the groups in your home state who care about historic preservation.

We have done just that and are pleased to announce that two entities, one statewide and one regional, have responded.

The Heritage Fund, managed by Arizona State Parks, empowers communities to protect important landmarks, enhance outdoor recreation, and ensure that Arizona’s unique heritage is preserved for future generations. The Heritage Fund awarded $60,000 to Saint Philip’s for the stabilization of the south façade adobe wall.

The Santa Cruz Valley National Heritage Area is one of 62 Congressionally designated heritage areas across the United States. SCVNHA strives to connect people to the historic and cultural foundations and the living landscape of the Santa Cruz Valley and to actively work towards its long-term stewardship. SCVNHA awarded $10,000 to Saint Philip’s toward the last two phases of the stabilization project: the new roof and the repair of the bell tower.
