The Christmas story is one of extreme vulnerability. Mary and Joseph are poor and find themselves without housing right before the birth. The beginning of Jesus’s life foreshadows his particular care for “the least of these.”

Christmas can be the gift of heart softening. It can be a time of choosing courage to remain permeable—of letting love in and out, of receiving and giving.

We invest in children knowing we may never see the full flowering of what they become. Together, we refuse to let the needs of vulnerability go unmet.
