Dear Friends,

One of the readings today is the short letter to Jude, who was possibly a brother of Jesus. It is one of the earliest writings in the New Testament, and probably the shortest.

The letter was written to warn the readers about a form of teaching currently being given by men who preached a dangerous doctrine, rejecting the moral authority of God, and claiming their own authority and spiritual sophistication.

Jude’s advice is such that we might all take to heart.

We live in a world where God’s moral authority is always under attack. As Christians we live with one foot in this world, and one foot planted (firmly, we hope) in the doorway to the spiritual world. We have to discern the Truth from false teaching, and act accordingly.

So Jude’s advice speaks to my heart when I read the daily news.

“Pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in the love of God. Look forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.”

So may it be.

Faithfully,

—Chotard
