The Rev’d Dr Richard Mallory
By John Bremond, Senior Warden
Dear Fellow Parishioners,
Since Fr Robert announced that he will leave Saint Philip’s on August 31, the Vestry has focused on ensuring a seamless transition of leadership.
Because the search process for a new Rector will likely take months, it’s customary to appoint an Interim Rector to help maintain stability and momentum. The Vestry spent much of the past two months working with the Diocese to identify prospects for that position.
To our surprise and great pleasure, we discovered a well-experienced and capable candidate in our midst.
The Rev’d Richard Mallory is a Saint Philip’s parishioner and affiliate clergy member. He has served as an Interim at six churches in New York City, Connecticut, and most recently in Tucson at St. Alban’s.
I am very pleased to announce that Richard has accepted the Interim Rector position, and will begin on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
A little about Richard
Richard grew up in Anniston, Alabama. He received his undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University and his Masters of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary.
He later earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Andover Newton Theological School. This degree is considered a post-Masters degree that is designed for those who want to deepen their expertise and effectiveness in ministry contexts, rather than primarily pursuing academic research and teaching.
Richard served as Senior Faculty in the D.Min. program of Postgraduate Center for Mental Health at Hebrew Union College in New York City. He was also a co-founder of the Greenwich Counseling Center at Christ Church in Greenwich, Connecticut.
Fr Mallory moved to Phoenix in 2008 to work in a counseling center. He came to Tucson in 2015 to serve as the Interim Rector at St. Michael’s and All Angels Church, which is where he met his wife, Pam.
Richard loves the outdoors, and hikes in Sabino Canyon five to six times a week.
Pam and Richard will spend the month of August on the Big Island in Hawaii where he serves a mission parish every year. But upon his return, Richard looks forward to meeting and getting to know as many of you as possible.
Please make a point to introduce yourselves when you can, and join me in welcoming Richard to his new role.
Faithfully,
—John
