Luke Pearson

Dear Friends,

In today’s Daily Office Gospel, Jesus instructs a young man to follow the commandments if he wishes to enter into life. The commandments that he lists include: “You shall not murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; Honor your father and mother; also, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” The young man tells Jesus that he has kept these laws but is curious on what he lacks. Christ gives him two final commandments. He must give up all that he has to receive the treasure of heaven; “then come, follow me.”

Follow me. These words are an invitation from our Savior. It is an invitation to be transformed and enter into a new life. A life that is no longer focused on one’s personal gain or ambition, but a life that is centered, sustained, and saved by God's love for all of us. When we choose to follow Jesus our transformation begins. However, we must have the courage to take the first step towards him. Jesus wants us to join him! Will we follow his lead and cast away our old self? Will we walk besides him on the path paved with the bricks of radical love and service for our neighbors?

Follow him, friends, follow him. For Christ shows us a way of doubt, despair and darkness. Follow him, and his wonders will be made known to you. Follow him.

Best,

Luke
