Dear Friends,

As I read the readings for today I found myself wishing for more time—more time to read and pray, to reflect and maybe write a little bit about them, just a little more spaciousness. More time to consider the wide-ranging natural metaphors in Isaiah, the love shared in the Epistle, the stark beauty of Luke’s telling of the institution of the Eucharist. This time of year can feel a bit cramped, and you too may be longing for a little more spaciousness. I hope you receive some time to reflect and pray and read or do the things that fill up your soul in the midst of the busy-ness, and maybe too in the early new year.

When my sister and I were growing up my Mom always loved January—the hush after the rush. If you are looking for some time apart, a retreat with a lot of fun involved, check out this opportunity at our Diocesan Camp in Prescott! In the meantime, a prayer that has been a moment apart for me:

This is another day, O Lord. I know not what it will bring forth, but make me ready, Lord, for whatever it may be. If I am to stand up, help me to stand bravely. If I am to sit still, help me to sit quietly. If I am to lie low, help me to do it patiently. And if I am to do nothing, let me do it gallantly. Make these words more than words, and give me the Spirit of Jesus. Amen. (BCP p. 461.)

In Christ,
