I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

Beloved in the body of Christ,

Today's Gospel is a reminder of what Jesus offers us. While we might often pray for miracles and signs, the ones which he often provides us are more subtle and give us far more than we could ever ask for.

The greatest of these is one that is offered to us every Sunday, the Holy Eucharist. It is during this moment that time itself collapses and God becomes fully present with us in the body and blood of his Son.

For this moment we can allow the world to melt away, and share in communion with all Christians, throughout time and space, in the unifying consumption of our Lord. And in this act, if we allow Jesus into our souls and accept his grace, the hunger for this world will fade, and the overwhelming thirst of our souls will be quenched by the blood of the Lamb.

The flesh of the world dissolves, and the waters dry up, but the bread of life is forever! Remember this when you next feel longing, and ask yourself: is it an earthy and perishable thing which I long for, or is my soul truly calling for the gift given to us by God, His blessed Son?

May you live in Truth, Peace, and Love,
