Beloved,

The current Old Testament reading revolves around the plagues that befall Egypt from God due to Pharaoh’s refusal to release the Israelites from bondage. The Epistle reading revolves around Moses’ encounter with God and the implementation of the Law.

In both, we continue to get a smattering of learning a bit more about Moses and Aaron, and their role of helping lead the people of Israel to worship God. One important biblical motif that they inhabit is that of the Royal or High Priest. A particular perspective one can glean from these scriptures today is how Aaron and Moses serve in ways to illuminate, imperfectly, the role of the royal priest that would ultimately culminate in Jesus’ incarnation, suffering, death, resurrection, and ascension.

There are many lenses to view and understand scripture. There are many mind-bending dimensions in which Our Lord transcends and flutters through the many interpretations of scripture. The motif of the Royal Priest is one that I find particularly prescient, especially as we approach Jesus’ fulfillment of earthly ministry.

Below is a great 5-minute snippet by the Bible Project which elucidates more about how Moses and Aaron fulfill an image-bearing role of the royal priest who is yet to come in Christ, and it’s quite interesting to contemplate!

May our hearts turn towards Christ in the coming weeks ever more so, contemplating the wonder that is God-Made-Man!

Blessings,
