Dear Friend,

A portion of the letter to the Church in Philippi is our office Epistle today is so rich that it bears sharing here:

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Today I am pondering, what does gentleness mean here? Is it holding things lightly? Is it deep kindness rooted in the wisdom of God's power? This text invites us to proceed with our prayers to the very God of the universe, easier said than done, of course, but incredibly, we are invited both to be gentle and to be clear and honest. The invitation to gentleness, and perhaps humility, reminds me of Paul's realization in the second letter to the Church in Corinth, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” So, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

May God bless you with trust, peace, and gentleness this day.

In Christ,
Mtr Taylor
