Mtr Taylor Devine

Dear Friend,

I imagine you have heard the refrain credited to Mr. Rogers' Mother, who said in moments of fear or disaster, "Look for the helpers." I imagine this phrase works well for small children, helping them to focus on the agency in any given situation, rather than the sense of overwhelm that can be so paralyzing. For adults it can be focusing too, but at times we may need to take it a step further. Today's readings are challenging-as Fr. Mark eloquently wrote yesterday, God's sovereignty is mighty, but we see the sovereign choice in the pattern of the triune God claiming the power to be with, to reconcile, to be reconciling love. I wonder if today you would join me in "looking for the reconcilers?" Look for the Spirit of God in action, as reconciling love, even here in our own lives.

I leave you with another lovely image from Prayer: Forty Days of Practice to help us hone our vision for the reconcilers:

It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed. (from Deuteronomy this morning)

In Christ,
Mtr. Taylor
