Dear Friend,

Every day in the Daily Offices Christians pray around the world in familiar phrases. The second set of prayers in Morning Prayer (p. 98), known as "Suffrages B," comes from ancient prayers that echo an ancient hymn's final verses and responses, the Te Deum, and Psalm 25. A kind of mini-creed of trust and devotion, these prayers work their way into your heart.

Suffrages B
Save your people, Lord, and bless your inheritance;
Govern and uphold them, now and always.
Day by day we bless you;
We praise your Name for ever.
Lord, keep us from all sin today;
Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy.
Lord, show us your love and mercy;
For we put our trust in you.
In you, Lord, is our hope;
And we shall never hope in vain.

It is both comforting and disarming to think that there are prayers for us, for "your people," at all times and everywhere - in the midst of the most mundane and overwhelming occasions. May you know yourself beloved in this way today.

In Christ,
Mtr Taylor
