“Jesus asked the twelve, ‘Do you also wish to go away?’ Simon Peter answered him, ‘Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.’”

Dear Friends in Christ,

Sometimes being a Christian is hard. Jesus’ teachings are difficult to follow, and even when we manage to, we often face disapproval from others for doing so.

Other times being a Christian is hard because the Church does not always live up to its calling. The ways that other Christians speak and act can make us tempted to walk away altogether.

Today’s Gospel reading has been a touchstone for me for almost a decade now, in moments where being a Christian is difficult. It reminds me why, despite it all, I will alway stay. Because Jesus has the words of eternal life, and is the Holy One. We stay not because it’s easy or because others are well-behaved, but because of who Jesus is - and that will never, ever change.

In peace,
Mtr Kelli
