Meet God at the Movies

Meet God at the Movies will discuss the 2020 documentary Crip Camp when the group gathers at 6:30pm on Monday, June 19.

Crip Camp is the story of one group of people and captures one moment in time. A groundbreaking summer camp for teens with disabilities proves so inspiring that a group of its alumni join the radical disability rights movement to advocate for historic legislation changes.

Crip Camp’s release in March 2020 marked the launch of the Crip Camp Impact Campaign. The impact campaign’s goal was to use the film as leverage to create change for people with disabilities. The impact campaign team used an intersectional lens to encourage people to think of disability as a social justice issue, develop emerging leaders, and create long-lasting partnerships with like-minded organizations.

The Saint Philip’s movie discussion group gathers every month via Zoom to explore a film and plumb it for theological content in the areas of creation (what is the world of the story like); what is broken/where is sin; is there a moment of turnaround, repentance; and where is redemption or the reign of God visible.

All are welcome to join the discussions, but registration is required. You can register by emailing Mtr Mary at mary.trainor@stphilipstucson.org.

Crip Camp can be streamed on Netflix.
