Tree rot fungus

For a few months now, staff and Buildings & Grounds Committee members have been concerned about the large catclaw acacia tree in front of the church. A visit by Randall Port, an arborist with the Urban Forestry of Tucson, has confirmed that the tree has a very advanced fungal rot, and cannot be saved.

Because the rot is so advanced, and the damage to the tree so extensive, the tree is a safety hazard. The branches could break or the entire tree could fall over. Removing it will address this safety issue.

The tree is scheduled to be removed on Thursday, May 23. Please email Emily Swartz, Chair of the Buildings & Grounds Committee, with any questions. She can be reached at ehswartz@hotmail.com.
