A new model

Saint Philip’s is fortunate to have a relationship with Chelsea Shepherd from Sound Sparks. She is a music educator and prior to running Sound Sparks, she worked as a church musician for ten years.

Chelsea will lead a training with parishioner and educator Amy Minish and Mtr Taylor from 9:00am-11:00am tomorrow, Saturday, January 13. The three ladies have collaborated to provide a training for parents who will participate in Saint Philip’s nursery.

Tomorrow’s training is part of a new model planned for the nursery. Instead of providing basic childcare, the nursery will be a space that weaves together music education and Christian formation for infants and toddlers. Parents will volunteer and participate with a paid attendant on Sunday mornings.

Parents will learn skills (such as how to lead toddlers in a transition song when moving from inside the nursery to another space) and different ways to incorporate faith practices (with age appropriate crafts or activities, for example). The beauty of this training is that it can be carried out everywhere and both children and their parents will benefit.

Early exposure to religious vocabulary, spirituality, and faith practices has a proven impact on long-term faith formation.

If you’re a parent and interested in participating, then join Chelsea, Amy, and Mtr Taylor from 9:00am-11:00am in La Paz tomorrow, Saturday, January 13.
