Choir season begins

This past week our Adult Choir and Saint Nicholas (youth) Choir began rehearsals for the coming year. The Adult Choir will begin the program year with a two-day retreat where members look ahead at music for the next several months.

This Sunday, September 17, the choirs will preside at the 10:00am service. Beginning on Sunday, October 1, the 9:00am and 11:15am liturgies will return and the choirs will resume singing at both. (And mark your calendars for the first Choral Evensong of the program year at 4:15pm on Sunday, October 15.)

Have you thought about singing in services, or do you have a youth interested in singing (aged 8-high school)?

Saint Philip’s Adult Choir sings a great variety of substantial repertoire from the Renaissance era to living composers, and you don’t need to be a marvelous sight-reader to join, as we have a mixture of less-experienced and professional vocalists who work together.

There are no prerequisites for joining the youth choir either. There is a variety of great repertoire and an excellent curriculum from the Royal School of Church Music to teach them whatever they need to be a thriving choir member.

There are multiple opportunities to grow if you are new to singing, and satisfying work if you are a seasoned vocalist.

If you have any interest in participating—at any time during the year, but especially now at the beginning—don’t hesitate to contact Dr Justin Appel at justin.appel@stphilipstucson.org for more information. He will be very happy to help you discern if one of the choirs makes sense for you or your child.
