Initial work completed

Do you like to see transformations—those compelling “before” and “after” photos? Do you like to make a difference? Do you have a few free hours on Saturday mornings? If you answered “yes” to even just one of the questions then read on!

Parishioners Erika Johnson and Emily Swartz are on the Creation Care Commission and overseeing a project to transform the area east of Saint Philip’s offices. They are going to create a beautiful new garden populated with trees and plants recommended for the area.

Initial work last Saturday began to dig basins to capture much of the rain that falls in this area, drains from the roof to this area, and drains from the area just to the north of this area. In all three spaces the rain currently drains out to the parking area.

If captured, rain could provide quite a bit of the water needed for the new trees and plants. The new colorful plants and three trees will be beautiful, support pollinators, require very little maintenance, and ultimately require much less irrigation than the current vegetation does.

Work will begin at 7:30am tomorrow, September 23, and continue each Saturday morning through October 7. If you are able to help—every week or just once—please bring a shovel and gloves. If you have neither, come as you are.
