Christian formation

Overview
When the calendar permits, Sunday forum’s theme will be reflected in the Wednesday Mosaic formation hour. This will allow people who are not able to attend the Sunday forum to still participate in the offering on Wednesday and vice versa.

Because of the limited time on Sunday, the forum will be offered as a lecture. The expanded formation hour on Wednesdays will be a more expanded, interactive exploration of the same topic.

September’s theme: Approaching God through poetry
This month all are invited to explore poetry, creativity, and faith with poet and translator (and Saint Philip’s parishioner), Kelsi Vanada.

Kelsi will invite you to consider: What sets poems apart from other kinds of writing? How can readers approach different poetic forms? How can reading poetry deepen our spiritual practice? And what’s helpful to know when reading poetry translated from another language?

Sunday, September 10, and Wednesday, September 13
At this Sunday’s forum at 11:30am and at Mosaic at 6:30pm, Kelsi will walk participants through how to read a poem. She invites everyone to join her and to “begin in gladness” (to quote poet Craig Morgan Teicher).

Dinner at Mosaic

The meal at 6:00pm is possible because of generous volunteers who shop for the food and arrive early to prepare it. They craft dinners to feed 30-50 people on a very tight budget and say they find inspiration from the miracle of the fishes and the loaves!

It will help the volunteers enormously if you RSVP for dinner this coming Wednesday, September 13.

What is Mosaic?
Mosaic is a weekly gathering on Wednesdays for fellowship, formation, and prayer. The community is made up of people from different backgrounds but everyone shares an interest in nourishing their relationship with God. It’s a wonderful way to meet people involved in different ministries at Saint Philip’s and learn about ways to be of service.

You are invited to participate in all events or just one:

5:15pm Worship service in the church
6:00pm Dinner in the Murphey Gallery
6:30pm Formation in the Murphey Gallery
