Caregiver support group

If you are caring for a loved one and feel lonely, isolated, or overwhelmed, then consider meeting in a safe space with others who share your experience.

The group will meet from 1:30pm-3:00pm in the Parish Nurse’s office for 10 weeks beginning on Wednesday, April 19. Space is limited so register with parishioner Peg Smith at songsofloones4@gmail.com or 520-639-4837.

The group has two co-faciliators: Peg Smith (featured last week) and Peggy Smith (below).

Peggy has an interest in caregiving based on her career, as well as personal experience.

After earning a B.A. in Psychology at the University of Arizona, Peggy spent almost 40 years in health care as administrative support to hospital leadership and medical staff. This experience allows her to offer assistance to caregivers who have to navigate the medical system.

In 1994, Peggy’s mother became terminally ill. Peggy lived in Tucson and her mother resided in Albuquerque. The next few years included many trips between the two cities—and lots of emotions. Peggy eventually cared for her aging father, as well.

Peggy knows firsthand how important it is for caregivers to have time to talk, share experiences, and—most importantly—to be heard.
