Solemn Communion

The Episcopal Church invites any baptized person to receive communion. This means that children do not have to wait until a “First Communion” or Confirmation to participate in the Holy Eucharist. The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd offers a layer of formation that invites children to discover the Eucharist anew.

For the past six weeks Cora, Lily, and Major have met for an hour every week with Dcn Ruth and catetchist Harriet Clairborne to read and meditate on passages in the New Testament. Next Friday, March 17, and through Saturday, March 18, they will be on retreat. They will make their own Anglican rosaries, bake bread, decorate their own paschal candle, and participate in their first confession. A full day!

On Sunday, March 19, all three children will participate in Solemn Communion at the 9:00am service. Following the worship service, all are invited to celebrate the children’s achievement along with their family and friends with a reception in the Perry Garden. This is a joint reception that will also celebrate parish nurse Carol Jones’ retirement.

Please keep Cora, Lily, and Major in your prayers. Thank you!
