Icon exhibit

November’s art exhibit opened last Sunday, November 5, and features icons created by Alex Kouvel.

You can meet Alex at the show’s reception 12:30pm-2:00pm this Sunday, November 12.

Alex Kouvel received his formal artistic training in Chicago at The School of the Art Institute, in Spain at the Universidad de Granada, and holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Arizona.

His career has included work as an illustrator, jeweler, serigrapher, and many years as an art instructor locally. His artwork has been included in exhibitions in a number of regional galleries and recently in shows at the University of Arizona Museum of Art and the Tucson Museum of Art Market.

Most recently, Alex has turned to working in his own spiritual tradition (Eastern Orthodox), studying under various iconographers within religious communities located in New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Arizona.
