Success

Saint Philip’s is the proud sponsor of a one-mile section of Campbell Avenue north of Skyline Drive. To maintain the sponsorship—and have a fancy sign erected—volunteers need to clean the road of litter at least twice a year.

The inaugural cleanup event was on Saturday morning, March 11. Dcn Susan Erickson, Susan Gamble, Judy Lawrence, Canon Joanna Satorius, Greg Silva, Mtr Mary Trainor, John Waszczak, and young adult Claire parked at the top of Campbell Avenue and worked their way south.

Participants reported being thanked by a number of local residents out for a jog or bicycle ride. Saint Philip’s crew was easily identified because they wore vests and had “pickers” to collect trash.

While everyone carried a phone/camera, no photos were taken. One participant explained, “We were having too good a time experiencing the event to think about documenting it.” A group photo will be shared after the next cleanup event—planned for September.

After their effort, the group enjoyed lunch at Proof Artisanal Pizza in Saint Philip’s Square.
