Concert and dessert

Saint Philip’s Rising Star series provides performance opportunities for young musical stars in the Tucson area. The events are concerts that feature an hour of special chamber music, followed by a reception with sweet treats.

The third of three concerts this program year will be on Monday, April 17.

Hannah Lui is keyboardist in the Tucson Philharmonia Youth Orchestra. She is the recipient of several major awards from competitions, including the Charleston (SC) International Music Competition. Hannah was a summer participant in the famed Interlochen (MI) Arts Camp. She is a junior at University High School and studies piano with Dr Ji-Young Kim.

Josh Thai made his solo debut with AZ Symphonic Winds when he was 11. Since then he has continued to excel at festivals, competitions, and masterclasses. As a result of winning first place in the Progressive Musicians Competition, Josh recently performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City. He is a junior at Quest for Education and Arts and studies violin with Dr Katherine McLin.

The concert will start at 7:00pm followed by dessert at 8:00pm. Seating is limited so reserve your place by calling Kay Couch at 520-299-2062. If you would like more information, please call Gwen Powell at 520-289-5641.

A donation is requested to pay for the musicians and the sweet treats. The suggested amount is $20 per person. This is an outreach program and no one will be turned away. The intention is to enjoy an evening with beautiful young musicians and celebrate with them afterwards.

The concert will be in the sanctuary and the reception will be in the Murphey Gallery. As per Saint Philip’s current COVID-19 policy, masks will be optional. (Variants and local conditions are monitored so adjustments can be made as circumstances require.)
